1999 Dakota Sport Tranny Problems
just joined these forums, about to start browsing through posts.
but my 3.9L V6 Magnum Dakota is shifting wierd. Auto tranny 2WD
I just bought the truck, and they said it had a transmission rebuild 8 months ago and has been sitting for about 7 months started once every 2 weeks or so.
When i put the truck into reverse, it will stall out if i dont give it any gas. when i do give it some gas it will drop to like 5k RPM and start taking off in reverse. i literally have to put all me weight on the brake to stop the truck from rolling, then on the rocks it was digging some as the front brakes were holding i guess.
it also dies putting it into drive at times. What could be causing this?
im about to start searching but if you guys have any helpful leads on this let me know.

Sounds to me like the IAC is either sticking or functioning erratically and causing the high engine speeds and engine dieing off when your putting it in gear ,, and it could possibly be the tps giving you trouble with soggy engine performance while driveing , but i would check all the basics first before i just started replacing parts , get a Haynes manual for your truck to help you daignose and trouble shoot different problems ,,, do the basic stuff first - start with checking all the hoses and connections for vacume leaks , and check the electrical leads to make sure they are plugged in tight and not broken or loose , check the tune up status ,, ect..

im starting to think its my transmission. when driving its really boggy, UNTILL like 35-40 mph, so its not starting in 1st like it should. its either in second or third from a dead stop.
any fixes?

update on the truck,
it will not downshift itself. the whole intake was cleaned the TPS and IAC are to be replaced soon. it will only go into first if i drop it into 1 from park or neutral AND give some gas as soon as its in gear. if not, it will still jump into second so i pretty much have to drive it like a stick shift.
if you guys have any more suggestions on the problem, hit me with them.
