Does any body know the thread sizing for dakota brake caliper pins
I just bought a 98 dakota, driving it I felt a pulsing when I apply the brakes. The manual said to check the calipers. The caliper pins on the drivers side are n.f.g. the threads in the holes on the knuckle aren't to great. Passenger side the bottom pin is good top n.f.g. I bought stock pins, but I am not sure of the thread size sae/ metric. I want to get the correct helicoil or kingset.
I also bought an oversize pin but I don't want to use it as it advises it is a one shot deal. I don't want to buy a new knuckle either

Yeah good luck with that...I had the same exact problem and could not get an answer...I just bought a self-threading over-sized caliper bolt after 20 different people told me to forget the helicoil...
At least after doing that, I know the size of the hole, right?

Im pretty sure 86jeep is right I got the kit in my garage. I would check but I got a 101 temp and dont feel like leavin bed lol. The last owner had oversized bolts in mine and it was fine then a couple of months ago I got a heli coil kit from napa and its like new again bad part was the heli coil kit was 39.99
As far as the fine print saying not to use the over-sized bolts, I am pretty sure that is just legal mumbo-jumbo...
Those bolts aren't really subject to any force or anything, which is why they have such a low torque spec and a stupid Torx head...all they really do is position the caliper...all of the force is exerted on the two slots in the knuckle that the caliper fits into...
At least that is how it was explained to me...
Not saying not to helicoil it or anything, because I do think that would be a preferable fix, but rather that I don't suspect that your brakes going to fail if you use the oversized bolt when you put new pads in...
