what kind of gains do you get from a high flow cat? performance, economy, etc?

I love my magnaflow...picked it up from summit racing store and had it put on. nice compliment to my flowmaster exhaust. great tone through all rpm's and noticed a decent gain in power and fuel mileage.

note: my old stock cat was completely shot and had almost nothing left to it plus i had a bad 02 sensor replaced at the same time so that could definetly be a part of my good results after upgrading.

Ummm...Catalytic converters dont' really 'go bad'. They can, but generally they are solid. It's made of ceramic and precious metal blends...Anyway, poor tuning etc can def burn a cat up. I might hollow my 2 pre-cats out and get a higher flow from my pops, seeing as he makes them!

I would put money that most of the different manufacturers use the same core, and slap a different shell on it. The manufacturing is kind of hard, and the purchase/control of the platinum and titanium etc, isnt a 'backyard' operation. Never know, I've been wrong before. So long as it scrubs most of the bad stuff, and keeps the engine breathing good, that's all that matters...

I'm sure most of the OE brands and aftermarket 'no namers' you get at the muffler shops are probably all the same, Magna flow I'm not really sure.. they claim they are made in the USA.. so thats a buying perk..

I'm pretty positive mine is clogged from carbon and junk over time, it's also one result of the plenum leak according to the thread.

But also can clog just from the burning of fuel.. carbon build up and crap.. as much as my cylinders were carbon'd up.. I'm sure of it.. plus after i did the de-carbon job.. the truck has ran like crap after 2 days of driving.. so I'm about positive all that crap went right out the tail pipe into the prescreen.. Plus there are countless articles of yet again poor and defective part from good ol dodge.. their CAT's were substandard and made of cheap components.. screens too small this that and another..

Thanks Dodge.. You idiots.. ROFL

my 02 sensor was bad which made the cat start to go plus you could physically hear metal rattling inside the cat when you hit. engine was bogging down after many short stop and go trips in one day. cats arent supposed to 'go bad' but they do...thanks dodge. and most other cats probably are built about the same way since those metals have to be in there but for 80 bucks out the door at summit, i was happy settling with magnaflow.
