Default touching up or painting body panels

this may be opening a pretty big can of worms, but here is whats up. on both my front fenders, hood, and roof, my clear coat is peeling off (previous owner must not have regularly waxed it, no biggie). i am thinking about repainting them with the factory PR4 paint (flame red) to make them look good again, as those are the only defects to the truck. i have quite a few questions as to how to get this done. i will be doing this this summer so any help you guys can give is awesome

what grits of sand paper should i use?

do i need to take off all the paint and re-prime, or just get the clear off and rough up the base coat and start from there?

what kind of spray gun or paint applicator would be best?

how many coats of paint?

how long to let cure, and do i wetsand between every coat?

how many coats clear, and do i wetsand in between each coat too? how about after the final coat?

any specific brand of clear recommended?

anything else i need to know?

i may try doing this in a spot on my bed first to see how it looks, as i will also be doing a bedliner so it doesnt matter what happens there. i am no rookie to painting car parts, but am just seeing if there is any advice out there from the pros?

thanks for the help anybody and again sorry this is such a huge topic

I'm currently painting my bumper. It's a learning process to say the least.

I started with bare plastic so I had to prime and start from scratch, and I am just using that spray paint in a can that you get from auto parts stores. I'm going to finish it up tomorrow, so I will let you know how it goes.

rackaric will know I know he did the roof on his truck(he also has the flame red) It turned out good. Biggest thing is keep your area and work space clean and your paint will turn out almost like it was from the factory.
