Fuel Economy
I do mostly hwy driving, get 17+ in warmer weather and 15 in winter (my foot is also kinda heavy cuz I like the sound). I have a 2003 4.7 QC w/170,000 miles. You may need to change plugs, 02 sensor and then check your mileage again. Seems low to me too.
i was just stating an average i never said 16 for city
I really don't know how these guys are getting over 15-17 mpg.I have just tuned my 2003 Quadcab 4x4 automatic with 3.55 gears and a set of Cooper P275/70/16 Discovery H/T tires,I have not done any type of modding, still has factory air cleaner, factory Cat.On the open road running 70 mph,the engine turning around 1900 rpm,the overhead display says 15.9-16.2.Now intown I average 12-13 and that is on a good day.My truck has 122000 miles and has never been off-road,mudding,or abused.I would LOVE to fine out how to get 17-19 mpg. The main question is why is anyone worried about fuel mileage,if you buy a truck you do not buy it for fuel mileage gas or diesel. I have heard of people with the newer model Diesels quoting they can get over 21mpg and that is hard to believe. But like I have said you buy a truck to haul,do work out of,or as a daily driver, they just don't get gas mileage

Diesels truely are awesome my uncle has a 03 f250 7.3 powerstroke and he gets 18 around town and highway is 24. When he tows his camper he gets the same mpg I get in my truck, now thats sad. I so wish I had one, maybe this fall.
Going home last weekend I got 20.8...pretty sure they switched to summer gas though. This is even with my 32" MT's ect. If my truck gets under 17.5 i'm usually upset. I guess the 5 speed and 3.92 rear really does help compared to the shorter gears and an auto. I towed an empty 6x12 back up on Sunday about 150 miles basically all HW with my Superchips on Towing mode and only got 14.1...if i got that everyday though I'd probably have a different vehicle. I dont understand how MPG can vary so much between these trucks sometimes..
Are there chips out there that might help improve Fuel Economy? Really I do know it is a truck but it is not a large truck. I know guys with 4dr F150 4wd getting better fuel.
Just weird that the size of this truck and the fuel economy don't add up.
Maybe just the way it is programmed?
