idk if i trust the dealers around me anymore
i payed billy 300. a shop to do the cam swap would be over 1k easy. billy couldnt find anyone to do it less than like 1200 back in VA. look around, there might be a dodge gearhead in your area, post on craiglist and search the forums. good luck.
i've always liked doin my own work, as for shops just not wanting to touch the 4.7 thats understandable to me. I'll work on most anything from my 76' F100 with the 360FE big block to my 98' dakota with the 360 small block, but a 4.7l with dual overhead cams is foreign country to me. But you can only learn from tryin.
...and sometimes over head cams are alittle easier since everything is right there. The hardest part is making sure the cam chain doesn't come off the bottom sprocket. I think a lot of people are nervous because they're aren't the same old school motors that have been used for ever but as far as the motor is concerned I think they're easier to work on as far as cams are concerned. The fact that they're more advanced it's a different story. The electrical systems is much more complex than older vehicles and there are a lot more sensors, but the motor it's self isn't a ton more difficult, it's all the equipment supporting it.
Not saying its easy but I think people are just worried that it is more difficult, but if you can tear about your 360 you can do a 4.7. Especially if you have a manual or something helping you through the process.
