I have a 2001 dodge dakota with a 4.7L. For several years I have had an issue with the electronic gear selector lights not working. Also the lights on the heater controls do not work all the time either, as well as the interior floor lights. The gear selector lights do come on from time to time, and if I smackthe heater controls I can get the lights to work. Took it to the dealership, and they said that I neeed a new control head, but I cannot seem to find out what exactly that is...ANY HELP?

 

Welcome to the site. You obviously have electrical issues. Just curious though, what part of the country are you in? Maybe corrosion has helped you out a bit?

that sounds like your ctm it controls all that stuff

 

It does sound like your ctm but you said if you smack the controls the lights will work, sounds almost like a bad ground.

 

I live in Michigan. I havehad many lectrical issues with this vehicle, and it seems like it takes any garage or the dealership quite a long time to get anything figured out. When I took it to the dealership, they never said anything about the gear selector lights not working right, just the haeater control lights. What exactly is the ctm...(kinda illiterate when it comes to cars, but I am trying to learn more)
