i have a 318 dakota that has a violent idle shake at 800-1200 RPM i have done next to everything i can think of to clear it up. and nothing works. i have even just put a gear to gear for timing so i know that theres no misalignment in the chain. have new valves and lifters rods and springs.(all ome) i had new cam bearings and cam put in. other then replacing the lower end. i have no idea where to go to. i havnt had any pistion issues. and im running 145 to 155 compression across the board.

some help would be great!

I have the same problem.. really rough idle.. whole truck shakes a little bit.. sometimes more that others.. but it also transfers to the same rythm when i put in gear.. and just let off the break.. (No gass) whole truck shudders, shakes.. what ever you want to call it.. give it some gas and it seems ok..

Could be the plennum? I have not changed mine yet.. I've done compleate tune up.. new High flow cat.. and other various things.. seems to be a vacume leak of some kind.

its not the intake i just did mine friday night and its still there. im starting to think that its has to do with the flywheel because i also have scraping in the clutch is depressed i have a metal to metal sound but its not there when tranny is netrual on if i lift slightly off the pedel... also mine doesnt have anything with the brake or anything else. honestly it feels like i have bad motor mounts.

Did you do a leak down test on your intake after you finished just to make sure there were not leaks?

Do you have an AUTO or Stick? I have an AUTO... when I take my foot off the break and give no gas I have a shudder, studder, shaking feeling in the hole truck..

I have not done the intake.. but i can tell you its not Coil, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, routing, TPS, IAC, Fluid of any kind** Bat charge, bad wire, ground, connection.. or CAT ect.

I've done some other things but I forget what they were exactly.. interesting what you find..

yeah i filled the intake with water and no leak. also i did a compression check. all are about 145-155psi. Im running stick. but i think i found my shake i lost the clutch today its only 6 months old. and only has about 5 maybe 10k on it so im hoping to change it wednesday and see if that takes care of it. because i have a feeling that the clutch wasnt disengaging all the way and was dragging and causing my shake because once it went it didnt shake anymore. but i will let you know what i find. also i have a new cap dis rotor plugs coil o2s and tps map iac good battery and new alt. motor grounded 3x
i do need to have it retimed i just did a chain and gears. also going to have the fly wheel reserfaced.

I wonder if this could be same sort of problem with the auto's clutch

you mean the torque converter. yeah it possable but normally they just slip and die! but im not good with the Auto i cant even drive it
