Default Ping or Ticking from motor?

ever since i put the 87 octane superchips tune in my truck i hear a ping when the truck is under a load, like hard accel or driving up a hill , reving in neutral or driving a constant speed it doesnt make that noise , its been doin this for a while and ive gone through a couple of tanks of gas i even tried 89 octane and it didnt change it , but shouldnt it no ping when im on the 87 octane tune ? and i have herd of people driving on the 91 octane tune with 89 octane gas with no ping so why is mine pinging or could it be something else? and if it is ping could it be damaging my motor?

1999 dodge dakota 5.2L 5spd 165500km

The Magnums are notorious for pining due to pre-detonation. The best thing to do is get a colder range spark plug and lower thermostat. Autolite 3923 is 1 step colder ask for it by part number it is not listed for our truck since it is colder than stock. Get a 180 Deg. thermostat.

My 4.7 was pinging a little with the trailer and when I put it on tow mode Sunday night but after about 50 miles it didn't seem to be doing it anymore. I agree with crazy though on the spark plugs and tstat though that should probably help out.

already have 180 t.stat , and new plugs 2000-1000km ago (but not autolite)
other upgrades i have done are air intake , magna flow exhaust and cat removed plus superchips 87 octane tune.

but i could try new wires, cap and rotor

Get the plugs I said. Guaranteed they work I got lots of performance parts and I got the pining issue too, bought some and they took care of it. They are cheep too. $1.50 or so each. There is also a 2 step colder but that is for turbo or superchargers.

If you don't believe me do a search. Tons of posts on it.

just put in new plugs wires cap and rotor (180t-stat already in)and theres still a ping , not as bad as before buts its still there, and yes i used autolite 3923 plugs, and ive treid runing without the tune and it made no difference , mabe i will try 89 oct gas again with these new plugs and wires and see if that helps , but gas is getting expensive and just keeps goin up!

any other sugestions ? is there anything else it could be besides spark knock/ping?
