Have you checked the brake light switch on the brake pedal itself?

My old ram the brake lights quit working one day and it ended up being a bad switch. Although the brakes stayed on constantly when it went out, but it still is and option to check.

Check the connectors under the bed of the truck near the lights. My dak was notorious for coming lose.

Glad you found your problem before it became a bigger more expensive problem later on.
