Default 3.9 to 5.9?

A friend of mine owns a 2003 3.9 v6 5spd. We were talking about my engine swap i'm doing with my car and started throwing around ideas of putting the 5.9 into his truck. Is this at all possible? Would the tranny mate up to the 5.9 block? where would I be able to find info on a swap like this??

Also, he claims to nexer see a truck just like his, so i'm out to find one. Black, 2003, 3.9L, 5spd, short bed, reg. cab, SXT.

This looks like a good group of people here. Good looking forum!

Thanks guys!

The 5.9 will fit in, I'm not sure the tranny will hold up though. I'm not familiar with the manuals that dodge puts in though. I know on fox mustangs the 4-bangers got significantly weaker tranny and rear end bits, I would assume the same of Dakotas too.

Im not positive but i was informed that they used anything possible the same from the 2.5 to the 5.9 to save money in the plant. For example i know good and well that my 2.5 doesnt need the bulky a$$ drive shaft thats on it, But its cheaper to use one for all then to manufacture 3 different ones. Im not gonna swear by this but ive been informed numerous times that thats how they do it. Do they make a 8cylinder with a 5speed? becuse every one ive seen has been auto. Im not sure if any of that helps but there you go, also what will become of that 3.9? I could use an upgrade
