Angry Fluctuating Tach

I have started experiencing a problem with my 2002 Dodge Dakota. When driving at a constant speed whether by pedal or cruise control my tach will fluctuate up and down. This is on flat terrain and not the usual increase when using the cruise on hilly terrain. Up 2,3,4,5, RPMs, down, over and over. It's quite irritating. Anyone out there have any suggestions on what might be causing this?

Mine's been doing that too. Does it happen when you're idling too?

Default Tach

Maybe something I can finally help with. My 2000 did the same thing. replaced the plugs and the problem went away. It had under 90K on it at the time.

My 01 with a 4.7 was doing the same thing. Per discussions on here I checked the tps and it was within parrameters. Changed it anyway and problem solved. For $35 and 15 minutes it was worth changing.

From the information I've gathered so far it looks like the problem could be the Idle Control Valve. Trust me most of you guys probably know a whole lot more than me about automotive but I have talked to some mechanics who believe I might be on the right track. The ICV on my 2002 Dak is located on the back of the throttle body facing the firewall. You remove the connection called a hat and the ICV is removed by either 4 torx or allen screws. According to the info be careful not to twist the new one going in. Put the new one in and maybe probelm solved. I wil replace mine this coming weekend and follow up on the forum.

I will definitley research more because I think PWall and surf-fisher more likely have the right fix.
