Not connected, I think your thinking is off here. What comes out, should go back in.

Is the paint coating made the hole a hair to small ,Ive had this issue several times over the years a dodge hasnt really changed there brake design in several years these are like the ones on my '77 Aspen, '80 Volare(Road Runner) dads '87 Dak. A small round file from the chainsaw case and a few LIGHT strokes just to remove coating as long as the pin still has lots of friction to hold itself in place,don't forget to lock the horseshoe in place.
