Default V8 Tb install?

Other than picking one up, what will I need to complete the instalation? Will it fit without any other modification? Is the height the same?

Thanks, nick

You need the throttle cable that is from the donor truck or a cable from the same year model truck, unless your V6 TB has the same type of cable connectors as the V8 TB does. V8 TB fits perfectly in place of the V6 TB and the height is the same too. Just be sure to transfer all 3 sensors from your V6 TB to the V8 TB because you know for certain they work OK and get a new gasket for the V8 TB, less than $2.00 at any parts store. Gasket part numbers are the same for V8 and V6 TB's.

My truck is a 2001, my V8 TB came off a Ram with a 318 in it, it was a late 90's, maybe a 97 or 98. I got it at a you pull it yard but I don't remember the exact year of the donor truck. So I guess you don't have to get the same year for the donor but you will need the cable to go with the TB. I got my cable from a Durango that was in the same yard, I guess it was about the same late 90's year model, it had the correct clip on the end of the throttle cable. I do remember the throttle cable was missing from the Ram.

Any '96 up V8 throttle cable will work but don't be surprised to find your low end torque just went in the toliet after the install. You'll see a little more power on top end but bottom end is going to suck.

A V8 throttle body on a stock V6 engine is just too big. The bores in a stock V6 TB are 42mm and in the V8 they are 50mm. That 8mm increase is just too much for a stock V6 engine. Also, the TB ports on top of the V6 intake are only 44mm so you're only going to choke down the 50mm bores in the V8 TB. It's your choice but if you want to see a real improvement in performance, get a modified V6 TB and call it good. I think you'll be a lot happier with it.

No offense intended to Bwdak or anybody else but my V8 TB has had no adverse effect on low end torque. If anything it helped it out because my truck takes off from a stop a lot better with the V8 TB than it did with the stock V6 TB. Maybe it's because I have a 180 degree thermostat so I run a little richer than stock. I don't do any towing so I have no idea how it might affect that.

I also cut out the openiing on my stock air intake box a lot bigger to draw more air in. The factory box tube and snorkel are very restrictive. That helps too but I guess I would need bigger and better flowing exhaust to really see anything from that. I tried running without the rubber flap too but when it rained hard my air filter got wet so I put it back on. To me there is really no difference either way with or without the flap.

With the V8 TB I am able to move through the gears a little faster and it does help some in the middle to upper ends of the power band so I guess it could help on hills. We have some good size hills around here, I can climb them in 5th gear with the AC on and still stay between 55 to 60 MPH. I think that's pretty good for a V6. V8 TB is not a magical cure all for my slow 3.9 but it did help some. It was well worth the $90.00 I paid for the TB and cable at the junk yard.

No offense taken. Just putting out some info and relaying some of my own personal experiences.

I noticed you have the manual tranny which is a big plus as to the pulling power. An automatic tranny is a whole different ball game as it's already a little weak in that category to begin with.
