Auto Trannys.... Worth it?
same here, its called the column shifter, haha, first gear pulls at 20 are just stupid.
Manuals can and do fail, don't get me wrong, but at least I don't have to put up with that garbage.
isnt the B&M auto rachet shifter the same thing as what i;m doing with the column shifter?
The installation of a B&M shifter improves the driving experience. By being able to drive the vehicle by shifting quickly up and down through the gears the driver can maximize the engines torque curve. A B&M automatic shifter creates driver control that is similar to that of a manual transmission shifter if desired. The driver also has the choice to leave the shifter in “drive” and allow the vehicle to shift normally.
go watch youtube videos of 3g rams, they all do the column shifting with the autos. im not worried about it.

i have a 2000 3.9l w the auto tran. w 145mi never been rebuilt and shifts perfectly fine its been in my family since 45,000mi so its always been taken care of . i do wish at times that it was an manual tran. but than again im glad its an auto when im stuck in L.A. highway traffic haha but overall if u get one in good shape i say the auto trans are worth it....
out of curiosity ryan_brown33 or anyone who could answer the question why is it that you turn off the od in city driving?????

well the speed limit in my town is anywhere between 35 and 50 depending on the street. i saw that once i got up to speed the tranny would shift through 1 or 2 gears to get into o/d and i would cruise at like 1300 rpm. then i would get on the gas to accelerate and it would pretty rapidly downshift 2 or 3 gears within a few seconds (if not less). it just did not feel right to me. so i tried drivin with o/d off and its so much better. the throttle response is better because it will only downshift one gear when i get on the gas. plus i feel like shifting that many gears that fast and that often causes unnecessary wear on the tranny. so unless i am on the highway doin 65 or more, o/d is off for me
Thanks for all the replies though, still pretty hard to narrow it down haha.
I'm not in any rush to get a truck just yet, but I'm not waiting any longer that mid July!
I'll keep ya posted.
Cheers!
