help with shocks
OK i have a Dakota Quad cab and it looks like the shocks are starting to get very soft with the 118 miles they have. So i was looking to get new one for the front and rear but was not sure which shocks were better to go with. I figured i would ask here since u guys seem to have alot of good info
. O yea before i forget i was going to add a leaf to the rear leaf springs to help take up the weight from all my tools i have in the bed cause when its loaded it drops almost an 1 1/2 inches. So any advice on that would be pretty helpful thx.

well i went with the monro-matic plus on my truck for the front & rear from oreilys because they were only $24.99 a shock , seemed like a good deal at the time , but i am really disappointed in them , they are a smaller tube than the factory ones i took off the truck and really feel worse on the rough bumps and dips in the road than the worn out ones that they replaced , so dont buy those , i dont know which ones to suggest but im going to watch this thread to see what others may say are better for replacements and go from there !
$25 for a shock? Seriously, how can anyone make a quality shock for that price?
My 02 QC 4X4 needs new shocks at 145k, but I am going to wait until I decide what lift I want to go with. I am going to go with Rancho RS9000XLs or Bilsteins, they are not cheap at around $250 to $400 all the way around but like they say, you get what you pay for. I will probably go with the Ranchos because of the 9 way adjustability and the Bilsteins tend to be a bit stiff although I like that they are pneumatic. But the remote control (in cab) option with the Ranchos is kind of neat too.

I have the Rancho RS9000XLs.
They are Pretty good. I have the My Ride setup, but it is anoyying, as the lines didnt seal, and the compressor kicks in periodcially. But independnt of that, I like em. I replaced many suspension/bushing components as well, and yea, that is a 'must-do' item. Rear sway, front sway, and I will be doing control arms soon. night and day. Moog parts seem the best, but thier front sway bushings didnt size up right. I may have some pics in my profile stuff.

Well i think i am going to with the Bilstein shocks cause so far i have read some pretty good reviews for them. Now to figure out what to get to strength the rear leaf springs to get the truck back to normal ride height.
i bought pro comps 9000 for my 99 dakota.. and they work great. i only paid like 140 for all four.. so you can get good quality shocks for cheap price. Unless your really gonna put them rancho 9000 to the test and use them for what they were made for then i would say its a waste of money
