Default Lift question for 99 dakota 4x4

I am in the process of looking for a good 3" body lift to put on my truck, but I have a few concerns. the first one is the 4 wheel drive shifter, everyone I've asked says that you have to weld a piece to extended it, seeing how I don't have access to a welder that is out of the question for me. and the 2nd concern is how hard is it to extend the steering linkage?
I really want to do this job my self, but I really don't want to mess my truck up.

also, I want to have the wider off set look once i put the lift on, as it stands now my tires to stick out, so i was considering getting 1.25" or 1.5" wheel spacers to give that nice offset look. good Idea? bad Idea? or doesn't really matter?

I'm riding on 31x10.5, with 15" rims. will this lift look stupid with these size tires?

thanks for the help guy

dont get spacers if you plan to offroad, just get a rim with a larger backspacing.

okay blaze. i see 5.5 inches of lift. 3 inch body but how did you get your 2.5 inch of lift? 03 and 04 don't have a suspension lift available. only torsion bar keys. if you did the keys how does it ride
