Default Sagging headliner... ?

Hey guys. Well as the title implies, today when I pulled in the driveway I turned around to get something out of the back seat, looked up and noticed the headliner is starting to sag by the rear window. I couldn't really get a good picture, but I can only imagine that it's one of those things that only gets worse over time. Have any of you had this happen? If so, what did you do to either stop it or redo it? Thanks.

You can buy a can of Head-Liner addessive (sp)?
It's buy Permatex. I think you can get it at Nappa.
It's a tall yellow & white can
What I did when my headliner in my Ram started
to separate was to peel the headliner back another
4 to 5 inches then lightly put a tack coat on the
headliner then, a light coat on the backer board
thats on the ceiling. Be sure to do a real-light-
coat on the headliner material because it will soak thru
and you'll see it when done. (You really don't need alot).
At this point, DON'T let both sides touch!! You'll never
get them apart!!! Start at the spot that's still attached
to the backer-board and use a C/D case to help work the newly
glued section back into place,.. Done,.. It won't come apart.

Yeah I knew generally what had to be done, just wanted to know if there was anything to be careful about. Just gotta find the time to do it, along with the many other things that need to be done to it... Good to hear from another illinois guy on here lol. Thanks a lot!

Usually the heat and humidity causes the headliner material to separate (happens all the time here in Florida). Unfortunately once this happens the only permanent fix is to replace the headliner. The material hanging down is just the cloth; the backing is still stuck to the glue on the headboard and it cannot be reattached to the cloth. Regluing it MAY work for a while until the material just disintegrates. Replacing it isn't that hard though. Removal and replacement (without damage) from the vehicle are the hardest part. You have to remove all trim pieces that are in the way and be patient. Removing the old material is a bit of work, I used acetone to help remove the old glue. Cut the new material about 1/4 inch over size and fold in half, lay it on the headliner board covering one half and spray the headliner board and material with glue working from the middle (where the fold is) and work your way to the end. Do small sections at a time. Let the glue dry for a minute then press the material onto the headliner board. Work from the middle out to the sides, smoothing then material as you go. Once one half is glued down, lay the other half back over on top of it and glue that side down working from the middle again.

It has been pretty humid here lately, so I guess that may explain it. Our other cars are the one piece kind. I'll fix it eventually, but if it doesn't get any worse for awhile I'll just leave it alone. I might try to reglue it first. I guess we'll see.

or you can find a local trim shop and have them recover it for you. $200 ish should be average. at that point you can pick any color you want.

When my headliner collapsed in my VW I checked shops and they wanted $300. I bought a complete kit from www.wlsheadliners.com for $47.20 including shipping four years ago, any color you want. Took me most of a Saturday to get it out, cleaned up, installed and replaced. But it looks professional still to this day and my car has a sunroof too. Well worth it, I used the $250 I saved towards other mods ;-)
