I guess maybe it could be off but it does move from 0 and that still wouldnt explain why my heater runs cool during winter

I was having the same problem in winter, top hose would barely get warm. Course now it goes to the second line in stopped traffic. I never understood it either.

Tell me more on the HHR fan, A fellow down the road has one that he dropped a tree on (DOH!) I could probably get the fan for a decent price. Easy install?
Where should it be wired to? Thermostatically controlled???
I was thinking that once its wired a small indicator light that it is on.

As far as the heater not getting very warm.. do a back flush on the heater core.. that fixed my problem with my heat..

Even with the 180 stat and new fan clutch.. it climbs temps almost to 210... not quite though.. so the 180 is helping a bit.. I'm starting to wonder if i have a blown head gasket..

I was thinking about running power through a fused connection directly to the batter and when temps at idle start climbing having an on/off switch in the cab to manually turn it on..

Wonders if i could get away with stealing the fan off the wifes 2000 taurus.. :X ^_^

I installed the fan and 180 degree thermostat. Improved the temp at lower speeds, but on the highway the temp still rises to the same levels as before. Haven't towed yet, but I am sure it will go higher when I do.

So...do I change the temp sensor in case it is off? Which I am thinking it is ok.

Change the radiator? It is a few years old, maybe it has clogged up?

I got it all worked out. Changed out the radiator and the truck is running much cooler, and I think I am getting excellent gas milage without the mechanical fan in place.
