There and back again
I started working from home back in February and now I don't drive my Dakota near as much as I used to. I had to go on my old 56 mile round trip commute to a meeting at my office today though and on my way home I was thinking how much I like my truck. It has good power and a very comfortable ride, it runs very well for its age, the 5-speed manual is fun to drive and it gets decent gas mileage.
My truck looks great (to me anyway) and I think the Second Gen Dakota's look the best, inside and out. I saw mine from across the parking lot at the grocery store yesterday and thought to myself, "that really is a good-looking truck". I like the interior of my Dakota, it's comfortable and has more than enough room for me, the interior is laid out very well and even my AC smells good. My stereo system sounds good and I installed a cruise control not long after I bought my truck, both of those make highway trips and commutes a lot easier and more enjoyable. I am also very glad my truck is paid for.
What I thought about most today was the fact that my truck always gets me where I am going and then it gets me back home again. Even after sitting for five days without being driven or even started last week and this past weekend, it started right up with just a touch of the key. I always say my truck is like an old and trusted friend, and it really is. If it blew up tomorrow or caught fire and burned to the ground, I can honestly say without a doubt my truck has been a great friend and been with me in good times and bad. I got my money's worth from it and then some. I plan on keeping my truck literally until the wheels fall off or I get too old to drive, what ever happens first.
I am rambling and bragging here but I like my Dakota. A lot. I hope everyone else likes theirs as much too.

Hahaha just kidding man, I feel the same way. I have a huge problem with people who have no respect for their vehicle. I feel the same way about my truck, it's pretty much the first thing that's been all me, purchased by and taken care of by me. It's a great feeling to maintain something that's yours and that you really like. Oorah for dak owners

i went to wash my truck at the local wash tunnel. The guy couldn't figure out how to unhook the XM connector from my antenna, so i got out and showed him.
Him: "You customize your truck much?"
Me: "Nah, just the XM"
GF inside cab: "Half his damn truck is custom!"
extra switch panel
XM radio
extra fog lights
about to have HID fogs
custom made subwoofer
Aft/market head unit
V8 throttle body
I don't know what she's talking about. :P

Yeah im the same way I like my truck other than the fact of my auto tranny. She has been good to me tho. I was reading a few comments on youtube the other day and this guy was rambling on how people who think of their vehicles as a human being are stupid and makes no sense. I respect my truck, as it may not talk back to me or show feelings I still talk to her. I will always give her a rub on the dash or hood after a long hard day of work just to show I appreciate it. I also think this leads to taking really good care and making the most out of it. Call me weird but thats just how I am, Whos with me on this?
i love my truck. all of my friends make jokes daily about how my girlfriend is. meaning the black beauty. they just dont get it. my truck has left me walking a few times, and yes i cursed it when it was down. we have gone through alot of ups and downs, motor swaps, HG swaps, fuel pumps, and orings. but I still love my truck, i couldn't imagine owning any other truck. i abuse her daily but she puts up with it.

I feel the same about my truck. Even though I have the 2.5 and it has left me walking more than a few times, I just can't bring myself to get rid of her, we've been through too much. Every day when she starts I praise her for being the worlds best truck in the world. I use her, I abuse her, yet she keeps on going. Go Dakota!
I agree with mine. I've been 1 foot off the ground at high speed, teetering on the trailer hitch over a culvert, gone a full trucklength thru barb wire, had a couple of flats, but it just keeps on spinning over and keeps on going. Kinda like the energizer bunny.
