Default water temp sending unit

spin-off of my other thread. I know for a trans temp gauge, I can just tap the hot-side cooler line. (IIRC, it's metal, so I would also need to re-flare it, wouldn't I?) I was hoping it would be simple, but I know better than to expect that....

The water temp gauge was a bit more confusing. I thought I read that dako's have 2 temp units, and one can be removed in lieu of an aftermarket? (Or alternatively, using a coupling to keep both in service?)

I'd like to keep the dash relative gauge, but also have a numerical gauge. I'd put the gauge pod up under the dash, in the container behind (forward) of the cup holders.

I believe around 97 they stopped using 2 water temp sensors. Your truck should have a single sensor. Doesn't really matter anyways since the provisions in the manifold are too small for an aftermarket probe. I simply took a couple 1/2" NPT Tee fittings with a couple 5/8" barbs and splice it into the heater hose, giving me 2 ports, one for my aftermarket gauge and one for the CLT sensor for Megasquirt.

you're on a MS system? nice. We're thinking about putting the camaro on injection over winter.

Where's the heater hose you speak of? I thought the lines going to the heater were bigger than 5/8. Will I lose coolant using this method/have to burp the system afterwards?

Yeah I've been on MS since September. My hoses are 5/8, your newer truck may be different? Yeah you'll have to drain some coolant to below the level of the heater hose to splice into it, whether you need to burp it or not, I dunno, never really had to burp my truck, I just fill and go.

well that part sounds easy enough. Did you use A-pillar gauges? I was going to put mine in that little container behind the cup holders. Make a little pocket for them that fits there but makes them easy to see. I rarely use the cupholders, so it's the most "stealthy" look I can think of. Not sure where I'll pull a switched power source from, though? Suppose I could use one of the toggles I have up on the dash.

I run mechanical gauges so I only need to power the backlights. I 'm Using Auto Meter gauge cups on the dash.

Truck is a 5 speed so the hole for the kick down cable was open for me to pass the capillary tube through.

Hahns,

Are the transmission cooler lines rubber or metal? I'm trying to find the inbound heater hose + pressure side trans line, and can't find either. FSM says nothing about them being metal or rubber. I can only tee in if they're rubber. I'm gonna look again tomorrow.

Manual tranny so no idea about the tranny cooler hoses, usually they're a mix of metal and rubber.. Heater hoses should be simple to find
