Help with factory alarm
Hmmm, well now you guys have me thinking. It isn't the horn honking, it is a siren that makes several different types of noises, not really something I would have expected on a stock system, so you maybe you are onto something here. I noticed while the alarm was sounding I could still activate the panic button and had the horn honking at the same time (I'm sure all the neighbors hate me by now LOL). The siren part is located up near the master cylinder, haven't really looked up under the dash much yet. Maybe I will call a local stereo shop like you said and see if they can help.
Just a thought, if it is an aftermarket system can I just disable it and the kill system will go away or is it more complicated than that? First owner lived near Chicago so I could see why maybe she needed it, I don't need it where I am. Thanks for all your help guys, I'll keep you posted.

it depends on the alarm manufacturer, yes you can pull the fuse but you may not be able to remove the relay if its internal. and if the alarm loses power, by defalt it may keep the starter kill active. at which point all you need to do is reconnect the factory starter wires. the alarm just puts a brake in the wire to stop the starter from going. fairly simple tast, if you have a little electronics knowledge.
Remove the plastic panel under the driver's side of the dash and the lower plastic panel under the steering wheel, the area where you have the turn signal and hazard light switch. Look under the dash, you should find the alarm module under there, probably zip-tied in place. Cut it loose. Unplug the module and follow its wiring to the main power connection point. I would bet it is connected under the dash to the main ignition harness under the steering column. You may see 2 or 3 wires spliced in there, a main power (probably a red wire, about 18 gauge, connected to a larger gauge red wire in the harness) and ignition positive (probably a yellow wire, same 18 gauge, connected to either a solid blue or green wire with a red stripe in the ignition harness) these are just spliced into the B+ and Ignition wires at the harness, then you will probably see where one of the main harness wires is cut in two and has other wires connected, one to the ignition switch side and the other to the wire harness side. The wire in the truck ignition harness will be either dark blue with a yellow stripe or solid yellow. This is the starter wire. This is probably where the installer interrupted the starter circuit, probably done with a Bosch relay. Follw the wires yuo cut to find and remove the relay, it is probably not very far away from the starter wire. Cut the alarm wires loose from the starter wire, put the factory starter wire back together with solder and tape, butt connectors or any good reliable connection and I bet the truck will start after that.
Sounds like either the alarm has a problem or maybe the starter kill interface has a problem, or both. If you don't need the alarm you can just disconnect all other wires from it, insualte any exposed wire and remove it from the truck altogether. Then remove the siren if you want, it's under the hood somewhere. Keep in mind though, if you remove the alarm, the keyless entry goes with it, unless you have a factorty installed keyless and still have your remote controls.

I tend to lock it 2 or 3 times.....(I'm used to my mom's car, first button locks, second arms the alarm)
Well, for the most part anyway. When I got home tonight I dug into the under side of the dash and found the after market alarm. I found the valet button that was well hidden, and I disconnected the kill-switch relay wiring and re-soldered the yellow ignition wire together. I also took out the fuse in the red power line. I connected the negative battery cable again and to my surprise the alarm went off again! I'm not sure how when I took out the fuse, unless there is another one somewhere, but regardless I hopped in the truck, started it up and hit the valet button, the alarm chirps and shuts off. Yeah!!
I seriously considered cutting the thing out of there, but since I'm still not sure how integrated the whole thing is into the truck's wiring I decided just to wrap up the bare wires and zip-tie the thing back up. At least it now starts, and I now know where the valet button is if it happens to me again.
I did call a stereo shop today to ask some questions, they said it would cost around $50 to have it completely removed. At this point everything seems to work so I think I will just leave it.
Thanks guys for all the help, you saved me some ca$h today!

I had this same problem with my factory alarm.
I simply disabled the thing by pulling the fuse from under the dash where it was connected.
my FOB is fubar.
2000 Dak, don't know if the dealer will be able to fix it for me or not.
should probably find out soon enough, but for now the truck is not exactly attractive enough to steal. (if someone wants to steal her, by all means... I could use the insurance $$ lol ... j/k.... sorta...
