Street/race dakota or lifted/off road?

Defiantly build a street truck. That is cheaper to build with the base setup you have to start with. A prerunner style truck is cool but pointless unless you plan to use it. Just think form and function. Witch way would you have more fun ? I personally have a 99 5.2 4x4 and I beat the snot out of it off road then can outrun most ricers covered in mud. But the choice is up to you. Both are a good idea but 1 makes more sense then the other. Oh and please no wing. It just won't look right on a muscle truck.

I agree lifting a 2wd is not a good idea unless it's a prerunner. As far as making a 3.9 fast goes. You can make any engine fast if you want to lay down the cash to do so. Try using a tuner, better plugs, wires, coil, cai, bigger tb, tighten up your suspension with stiffer coils, front and back sway bars, helper leaf springs, high end shocks like rancho or bilstein, bushings, etc. Anything can be fast if you take the time and do it right.

He is planning on dropping a 360 magnum in the truck either way so working on the 3.9 is not in the cards from what I read. I could be wrong. But I've never driven the 3.9 so I don't know the potential it has. I've seen a few that have been worked on but have never been able to see what they can do.

Sounds like a street truck with no wing! I didnt know you guys hated those so much lol. Is has 170k miles on it and runs great. Right now im saving up for a exhaust kit headers and everything. Then just a reg tune up with some seafoam cause i looked down my TB and there was a bunch of crap down there (not good i take it). Any ideas on good performance upgrades on the 3.9 that i can do while i save for everything for the 5.9 swap? I know it sounds dumb adding to the 3.9 and then swapping but i think it will be ok. thanks guys!
