fuel pump removal?
99 dakota 3.9, i cut a hole for a trap door. When i saw the tank theres a white ring holding the pump in. Iv tried hammering it and twisting it and no luck. Whats the best way to twist it off?
You have to unscrew that white plastic ring to get the old pump out of the tank. It sounds like it might take a hammer and brass blunt drift or brass chisel to loosen it. Brass is best because it will not throw any sparks when you strike it with the hammer. And you don't want even the slightest chance of any sparks when working with gasoline.
You might have to drop the tank or remove the bed and remove it from the truck to get a better shot at and better leverage on the retaining ring. You also need to be able to see the alignment mark on the top of the fuel tank, so you can line up the new pump corectly so the fuel gauge float will work have adequate room to travel and the gas gauge will read correctly. I have heard and read if you have a quad cab you can't get to the pump by removing the bed, because the cab is longer and it covers the pump. The only way that I know on a quad cab is to drop the tank.
