will HIDs keep my switch alive???
ok now ive looked but couldnt find any thread about this
so we all know our headlight switch overheating and melting and causing the headlight to shut off randomly.... now if i get my HIDs, with the hids using less power. will it keep my switch from overheating and turning off my lights
im already replaceing the switch and the melted plug just trying to prevent it from having it melt again....

I've been using hid's successfully on my truck for over a year now and got hid fogs about 8 months ago all of that is on my stock wiring and i've never had a problem with my switch or it getting hot. Also hid's use less power they just create a little bit more upon start up.
Wouldn’t there be a more underlying problem causing the melting of parts so switching headlight bulbs may help but not solve the real problem?
I dont know how to test or suggest what to check for your melting but maybe you should go to a shop and have them check out your truck.

yeah the underlying problem is that dodge cant make a switch to save their life the reason it melts and other problems they have to many wires in the switch and to much power going through it and if you use the lights to much the connector plug which isnt constructed properly starts to melt from all the power and heat i garuantee if you guys take off you dash and unplug the pull stick headlight style switch it might be small but everyones switch is at least starting to melt....
I have never had a problem with melting wires or bad headlights maybe you are overloading the system I dont know.
Have you added on to the system in any way?

If you are correct rethink what is happening separate one circuit out into new circuits and fuses and fix the problem properly.
Use a separate dash switch for the fog lights or any extra lights you may have added into the circuit don’t run everything off one circuit.
When I added off road running lights I ran a dedicated line for them just think that way.
