Default 99 Dakota timing

I got a 1999 dakota 5.2L, seems to ping lots under load and heavy acceleration. can you set the timing on this? i know the comp does but what about the base timing?

No, timing cannot be changed without a tuner. And that isn't the real cause of the problem. A blown plenum gasket is a likely culprit, and/or carbon build up. I've seen Seafoam do magical things when it comes to removing carbon buildup and stop pinging.

You introduce it into the intake via a vacuum hose.
