I notice other dakotas and rams same year as mine that are 5 speeds have cruise control. how would i install cc on mine?

 

If you can get the parts from a boneyard it's easy. I did it on my 2000.

You'll need the servo (and mount), speed control cable, the switches and harness, steering wheel bezel, and clockspring. The wiring is likely already there, check first.

Install the servo and cable.
Remove the steering wheel, remove the original clockspring.
Install the new clockspring.
Replace the bezel on the steering wheel and install the new switches.
Install the steering wheel, make the electrical connections.

You "may" need to go to the dealer for them to enable the "CRUISE" indicator on your instrument panel. It's programmable. The hard part is finding a tech that knows enough to do it. DRB tool, takes about 2 minutes.

You're done.

 

I put an aftermarket cruise on my truck, it's the Rostra brand. I paid $200.00 for it at a truck accessories store. Rostra is a good cruise control, they bought out the Dana cruise corporation some years ago. I installed it myself in just a few hours one Saturday. That was 5 years ago, and I have not had any trouble at all with it since then either. The only visiible difference between the OEM cruise and aftermarket is the OEM has the control buttons in the steering wheel, for mine I just had to add a control stalk on the left side of the steering column, it looks a lot like the turn signal lever. I guess the control modules probably look different too, but they are out under the hood. I have no idea how much the parts and programming would cost to add an OEM cruise. Mine works great and was pretty easy to install.
