Default 2000 Dakota Sport - want a center seat

Hello all. I have my first Dakota and am enjoying it quite a bit. It is a quad cab sport with the 5.9.

I have four kids and my dear sweetheart. Occasionally, I need to take them all with me. The truck currently has a center console. I would like to replace the console with a center seat.

Somewhere someone hinted (can't remember where) the seats are the same and that there are simply some brackets/rails to attach the center seat to the other front seats. The parts guy at the local dealership says that the two seat base is different from the 40/20/40 base.

I have found a matching center seat online and the seller is offering the hardware underneath it. I can't go see it.

Has anyone done this before? Will I likely be able to hook everything together?

Thanks in advance..

the seats themselves are the same(40/20/40 vs buckets). the seat tracks are the difference. the bench style has mounting brackets on the track assembly for the center seat to bolt to, the buckets do not. so you need the track system(from both seats) off of the 40/20/40. swap out the tracks, bolt on the center seat and your good. fyi, be sure to get the seat belts for the center seat!

Thanks McNasy! I like your pic. That is excellent information. If I do the change, I will post the project.

just a heads up, when you take the hard console out, you will have holes left in your carpet. the rear holes your new seat should cover. but its the front holes you will see. you can modify the console you take out or get one from a truck that came with the center seat, not only will it cover the holes, but you will have cup holders.

Exactly what I need to know. You have been under that console before!

Will I need to fill or plug holes in the floorboard (noise, rust, and whatever)?

Want to sell that center console? What color is it i've been looking to do the opposite and replace my center seat with a console for a long time but can only find the 01 and newer style! Can you post up some pics if you'd be interested in selling it.

TheePlaymaker,

Thanks for asking. The company I was getting the middle seat for could not come through on the hardware. They were asking too much for me to go out and find another truck to take apart. So ... I still don't have a middle seat. The salvage yard an hour from me has a whole set of seats they are willing to sell, but I have not made time to go down there yet. This weekend or next I hope. I will let you know if it becomes available. My dakota has the charcoal/black/dark grey interior. Will post a pic if I can get the seat and hardware I need.
