You ripping all the A/C out?

 

Yea, I'm starting with the compressor and condenser first then will do the evap later. I'll cap the lines though to prevent any corrosion.

 

This is pretty much what I did to my 5.2L
Its twice the engine but the concept is the same I think.

I bought the truck and the AC was unplugged. Why I don't know, didn't really care since I don't use the thing. WHen I had the time I had the AC juice drained, ripped the compressor and whatever lines I could get my hands on pulled out and threw on a shorter belt.

Long story short my truck is now slightly lighter in the engine, has a shorter belt so less work for it in the long run, and a much cleaner looking engine I figure.
Pros are a SLIGHT and probably unnoticeable performance increase. Along with a smoother running truck in my case. It made a world of difference for vibration so obviously my compressor was hooped and shaking up a storm.

Cons are you lose that AC if you ever do want it and if you ever sell the truck you no longer have AC as a selling point.

 

I think the 2.5L being kind of wimpy as it is could benefit some by removing the large belt and changing over to the small belt and bypassing the compressor every winter just pulling the fuse.

So bypass the A/C every winter and use the small belt?

That large belt vibrates a lot so removing the vibration and smaller belt could give me back some power.

Yea, I've noticed a considerable difference in vibration and it's also a bit more responsive as well.

 

I unplugged mine just to see if it would increase my mpg. Every 10 sec the compressor kicks on and when on flat and cruising you would feel the drag when the compressor kicked on. So to sum up my story yes my mpg did improve.
