Default A/C delete?

I have 2000 2.5. My compressor took a dump about 3 months back and I haven't had the time to mess with it until now. My question is, can I just remove all my a/c system and just run a shorter belt? Would that mess with anything up or would I need to get the a/c delete kit with the pulley?

The quick "fix" is to pull the connector on the a/c clutch.

If you remove the compressor you're opening the system to moisture. That will lead to corrosion when/if you ever decide to fix it.

Lightbulb That or this

What 00DakDan says works or the final fix is the pully replacement and new belt like this at rockauto A/C Compressor Bypass Pulley for a 2.5L engine

00DakDan- Yea, I disconnected it the day it took a dump. After surviving a summer without any a/c I dont think I really need it and have no real intentions of ever fixing it.

98DAKAZ- I saw that also.

What I'm wondering is that Autozone sells a belt for this engine w/o a/c and if I used that instead of the bypass would there be any negative effects on the engine?

Question Im not sure

I know in my engine bay it shows a logo/pic like you can have eathier no A/C a smaller belt or A/C that needs the biger belt so I assume you just remove the A/C compressor and get the smaller belt.

Maybe buy a cheap small belt to test it out?

Question why not fix the A/C I R/R my whole system last year and it was easy to do I did the flush removed all the lines installed new seals switches and many other things for only $250.

In the 2.5L you have so much room to work on it the only major expense would be if the compressor craped out or the evaporator in the dash had a leak.

I’m not kidding you it was easy.

What crapped out do you know?

Get a shop to give you an estimat of repairs needed and what is wrong with it.

Try the belt, see how it fits.

I'm not sure if there is a difference in idler pulleys with or without a/c. As long as you put the belt on, it is tight, and the components are all rotating in the same direction you should be good to go.

I'm curious though, if they have that kit that 00DakSport found then maybe you can't.

Default I do know

My truck had no A/C but then two weeks later I had them install it and dont remember seeing the extra pully I think it had a smaller belt on it

If they sell a smaller belt then thier is the answer.

98DAKAZ- You're right it wouldn't be very difficult, especially since I work on HVAC for a living, but I just dont want to deal with it and I'm tired of looking at it. The compressor blew chunks into the line and puntured the condenser coil in several spots so the charge is flat already.

I'm going to pick up a cheap belt today and see how it goes and I'll let you guys know. Heck who knows maybe I'll get 50hp increase! Lol jk.

Thumbs up Good luck

50Hp no but 5Hp maybe if it was 50 Hp gain I would do it, it just may run cooler without the condenser in the way.

Well, I did it. It's a much shorter belt. It hasn't thrown any codes and is running perfectly fine, perhaps even a tad better.
