Using thumb drive in audio system
An update...I had too many honey-do's last weekend so I installed the new 4300 today. It sounds great and is easy to use. I like having the ability to use the remote to search through folders and search tracks when using the flash drive. My Alpine would not do that when using my Ipod. The Pioneer is a lot faster when searching for folders and tracks on the flash drive, and I tested my Ipod on it too and it is faster than the Alpine was when changing playlists and searching for song titles. I listened to my flash drive and then listened to the same song on my Ipod and honestly I can not tell any difference in sound quality between them. For $99.00 shipped the 4300 is a great deck. For the price it has great sound and a lot of features that are actually useful.
I took a few pics of the new deck in my dash. You can see how the small flash drive is low profile and does not look bad at all. It is on the right side of the radio faceplate:

I gave my truck a bath today too:

I had problems when I put my Itunes music files on the flash drives. I found out Itunes songs are in an m4a format and are incompatible with a flash drive. I found a cool free program online that converts w4a to mp3 files. I had to strip about 150 songs that had Apple's digital rights management code on them so they would upload and convert to mp3's. It took a long time getting the flash drives set up like I wanted. I bought 4 of the flash drives and found out I am unable cram as many songs as I thought I could on them. They will hold a maximum of about 500 mp3's depending on the length of each song. It is OK with me though becaue I much rather prefer those little Scosche flash drives to a big ole 8 or 16 gig thumb drive poking out of my radio. And I was right, it is very nice not to have to fiddle around with my Ipod in the truck now. I keep the flash drives in an empty 35 mm film canister in my center console box.
The Pioneer 4300 so far seems to be a great deck for the price. It has a lot of good features and it sounds good too. If anyone needs a new deck right now I saw Crutchfield has them on sale for $109.00, plus if you find an online discount code you might be able to save another 20 bucks on it too.
