Default Performance after CATCO CAT installed

Ok so some of you might know I've been a little moody after swapping the Magnaflow that blew out; (because of an issue i wont go into again) with a Catco.

Since I put this new one on; I have been really aggravated at the decrease in acceleration compared to the Magnaflow. It seems MagnaFlow uses 2 thin bricks inside one at each end; that causes it to flow better and still maintain the catylist effect.

The Catco; per their own words; do not make a "Performance" or "High Flow" but rather they make "High Quality OEM Replacement"

They use a single long brick in there so its basically like throwing stock back on.

SO what I'm seeing is basically the time in which it takes the engine to wrap through the RPM to the next shift takes much longer.

With the Magna Flow hitting passing gear the engine would jump up RPM almost to redline and shift and take off like a bat out of hell and the rpm be able to climb quick*

With the Catco; passing gear is like 3K-4K then has to climb then finally shifts; but then it just doesnt have the ability to increase the RPM as rapidly.

So with all that said; the amount of power would not be that big of a deal; if when you were moderately getting on the gas; if instead of shifting as if you were driving slow; if it would stay in the gear and accelerate. Instead it wants to be all trying to save fuel granny driving.

First thing to come to mind was the TPS but its new and this did not start happening untill after the Catco Put on. Either that or i just did not notice it being the engine was able to increase Rpm quickly?

So as far as from my experience I would say the Magnaflow has better results than the Catco; however the Catco seems to be of high quality.

I've been lookin at a hi flow by spintech, not sure how it is though. I'm not sure what you should do though Jon that's a tough call. If it were me I'd rip out the cat period. But idk what emissions are by you.

Yeah; but you have a "spintech" right? I spoke to Catco them selves; and they told me point blank they do not make a "high flow" or anything like that; they said they might flow a little bit better than stock; but they are basically a Quality OEM replacement and they did not make a high performance or high flow cat. Spintech was another story and they wouldn't comment on it.

I'm not bitching or anything just more of a review maybee it will help someone else.

I'll probably be getting a universal MagnaFlow or Walker; just not direct fit this time; as it was the wrong part for the truck; and I've already dropped too much money on this; I'm taking it to a local shop i trust about 40 miles away and let them match something up that's actually going to do what I want it to do.

This makes me want to buy some high flow cats, I never knew they would make so much of a difference.

Why not go with a 3" catalytic converter or do you have to stay with a 2.5"? I don't have emissions where I live so I'm not up on what is and isn't acceptable during emissions inspection.

The best mod to date that I've done to my truck is install the Edelbrock headers with y-pipe, 3" Magnaflow cat and then 3" all the way back. Before this the truck just kinda didn't do much after 3500 rpm, but now, it pulls pretty good all the way to 5000 rpm especially in 3rd and 4th gears (I have the 5-spd).

So here is an update that officially tells you the difference;

CATCO: 2X 3.5" Ceramic Plates Coted w/ Heavy Metal
STOCKER: 2x 1.5" Ceramic Plates Coted w/ Heavy Metal

I know it was stock bc it had the Chrysler logo stamped on it. So bc I was such a noob about Cat's know I know; and I hope to share this information on what to look for; I think i might write a new guide and clean it up.

I was a real noob going into this; and now i actually understand there is no such thing as "High Flow" only that these so called high flow cats are only bare minimum. Thinner Ceramic Plates with either an increase or decrease in actual holes on those ceramic plates which either increase or decrease restriction.

I think you should check out internals first; find out what the thickness of the plates are vs what you have now on the truck; and what the number of cells are on the plates; as both factor in rather they are going to be more/less restrictive. That's what I've learned so far through the whole CAT business.. I wish i would have left it stock at this point.
