Tire Noise Or Wheel Bearings?
I have been listening to the loudest tire or bearing noise for about a month now,Im not sure if it is the tires humming or Wheel bearings. I know what tires sound like when they need to be balanced and rotated and i do mine every 5K,but they are wearing down evenly but not yet to the wear bars in the treads, but I have never had any issues before in any vehicles in my past that needed wheel bearings so what are some of the signs,is it noise, handling or shaking in the wheel because i have all new inner and outer tie rod ends and ball joints done about 5K ago and it sounds like the tires need to be rotated bad,and the noise of the humming starts around 30mph and just gets louder as the speed increases, they sound like big mudders and they are 31's any ideas?

It's probably a bad hub/bearing if it only has the noise after you hit 30 mph. Mine did the same thing, sounded like big ole knobby 4x4 tires on dry pavement from about 25 mph on up to 40 or 45 mph. Had the same noise decelerating from speed too. I replaced both front hubs, no problem at all since then.

Just replaced the right hub on mine about a month ago. Jack up the front and wiggle the tires up and down. I do agree that you should replace both at the same time but for me I just drive the Dakota to work and back if the left goes bad I won't be far from home.
Edit. I bought the hub from rock auto seamed to be a good deal.

Yea,it is not as load the humming sound when I corner at those speeds,I see the entire hub/wheel bearing assembly for sale on e-bay,you just can't replace the bearing by itself? looks like the pair for the front will be like $150 or more,I bet NAPA will be a ripper too, thanks for your reply

I bought mine at Advance, list price was about $120.00 each. I used one of their $40.00 off of a $100.00 purchase online discount codes, did two separate transactions, paid online with Paypal, picked the parts up at the store later that same day and saved a total of $80.00 on the parts. If you decide to buy from Advance, you can usually find a good list of their current discount codes at www.retailmenot.com, or just Google "Advance Auto Parts Discount Code".
