3.9 to 5.9 Emissions/PCM Questions
Hi, I am a long-time viewer of this forum, but this is my first post. I have a 5.9 engine sitting in my garage that is begging to be put into my 1998 Dakota 3.9 SLT Thanksgiving weekend. I have ran into a couple road blocks regarding emissions. I have concluded that my truck will pass a Texas emissions test as long as I have all emissions-control equipment installed.
My question is: Do I have to have a 4 Oxygen(O2) sensor set up in my truck, or can I put a Ram PCM with only 2 Oxygen sensors? But how would that affect my results when the Inspection place plugs their computer into my OBDII port? Will a Ram or Dakota reading come up?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Another thing I need to know is if the new PCM HAS to be the same year as my Dakota. i.e Can I use a 99 R/T pcm in my 98.

2 or 4 O2 sensors depends upon whether or not you have Federal emissions or the California type. Lots of places use the CA emissions. It also depends upon your PCM revision so that's probably where to start.
I'd use one from a '98 Dakota. There are changes between Ram/Dakota but it varies by year.
