Yeahhhhhhhhh, you're going to have to replace that head... Sounds like you drilled too far and tapped into one of the coolant pathways and if coolant is leaking out there is a possibility that it could be leaking into the engine oil as well... Sorry man thats some rotten luck. That being said replacing a head isn't THAT bad you can get it done in a day if you work diligently.

Make sure you look up all the torque specs, remove ALL of the old head gasket, and remember which pushrods went where. You're also going to have to buy new head bolts as they are a one time use item. I think advance sells them for about $50 a set. And they also have an entire upper end gasket set for about $30, if I remember correctly. I did this about a year ago haha. Good Luck man!

Well things went well or I thought. Started her up tonight and running rough almost like out of time? Also had smoke coming out of tail pipe? Here is what I did............
Replace head and intake gaskets, installed doner head, used pushrods and rockers from original head.
The future for my Dodge isn't looking good........I need my wheels!

Did you torque everything to spec? What about placing RTV sealant on the corners of the intake manifold gasket to make sure it was air tight? Was the intake manifold gasket seated correctly or moved when you slid it back on? Did you make sure to put the pushrods back in their same spots? and finally (I forgot this when I did it) did you reconnect the brake booster line??? If you made sure all that checked out I'm not sure what to tell you man. Sorry to hear the bad luck.

Where did you get the head from? If you got it from a junk yard thats a possibility. Do a compression check and see if thats good. If not then looks like you'll be tearing off the head again.

Ok.........found a bent valve!! So....decided to install new lifter, push rods and had the doner head checked out. Got it all put back together today and started her up. It sounded great but it was too late to test drive. Tomorrow I'll test drive and with any luck she will be back on the road!! I was on a time crunch and tried to do a quick fix and it back fired on me....lesson learned
