I was having the same problem with the 2000 5.9 I could not find the problem. gave up took it to a friends tire shop. he has a mechanic that had worked for dodge for 13 years. they changed the plugs which were new e3 put champions in it then had to reprogram the computer. I was thinking I was going to have to do a complete rebuild the truck did not like the plugs and took the computer programing with it.

Maybe!

Its a bad lifter, valve or worn cam lobe and nothing short a R/R of your engine will correct it!

I dont know offhand where else to go with this , have you tried pulling off the valve cover and inspecting the rockers and pushrods and valve springs for #5 and then turn the engine over by hand to make sure they operate through thier range of motion like the other cyl`s do ?? Maybe you`ll have to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer and pay to have them put it on their diagnostics machine and find out for sure what the problem is ??

like I said I had to get my computer reset. they could not tell me why it dropped the programming. It is running great now that it has been reprogramed.
