I was driving down the road the other night and my headlights cutt of then a few seconds later they cut back on this continued for a few miles then they cut off so i stopped and cut them off for about ten minutes and then it didnt do it agian for about another 15 miles or so the next day i changed all the fuses and it is still doing it. Ive tried different fuses and it still does it its whenever they get to hot seems like and it does it sitting still which leads me to believe that its not a short any suggestions

I'm guess you checked the connection itself. Maybe a bad ground? I'm not any good with electrical issues but that's where I would start.

 

Yeah checked the ground its tight and all the connections

 

Not sure about Dakota, but had a ford years back. Same problem. It was the headlight switch. There is a a breaker built into it.
