Default Front half shaft removal

Is there any reason why I can't remove the prop shaft from the transfer case to the front differential and drive the Quad as a 2 wheel drive? Shaft needs replacing and I am sick of getting crappy mileage for the maximum of 10 days a year I really need 4 wheel drive.

not that it matters, but what is the yr, engine ,transfer case and such for your truck? i have the awd and i drove mine for a while without a front shaft. i needed to put mine into 4wd (4hi) to drive it. if urs has a 2wd selection then you will be fine. there are a few threads on here covering this topic. do a search on it.

The truck has the monster (lol) 3.9 V6 with electronic switch on dash for 2 wheel, 4 wheel and low. I took the shaft off yesterday and have driven it about 50 miles with no problem. I have 197,000 miles on it and I bought it new.

Default 2WD best for gas mileage

I’m no 4X4 person and if you own one it doesn’t bother me that’s your choice more power to you I say.

Unless you need that option those 4X4 are expensive to own and do suck your gas mileage down.

The extra expense comes when the front starts having problems and transmission problems that crop up.

If you need a 4X4 get one but if not stay away from them.
