2000 Dodge Dakota Knock/Tap/Tick
crateampsrock-- Yeah I am concerned. I have been doing a ton of reading the past few days. I feel like a hypochondriac with this truck. Everything from rods and mains, to an accused sludging problem that could be causing a knocking... Ugh...
But I gotta tell you, this truck runs strong, real strong. Aside from the noise it makes it doesn't show any other signs or symptoms of any problems. Normally I can "feel" a misfire or a rough running engine through the shifter ****, wheel, and my foot. It seems very odd to me.
That’s not his engine remember he just picked it as a reference so getting an answer from that is questionable at best if he could post a vid on his Dakota then I would feel better.
I found a vid on youtube that sounds just like it

My Dakota, a quick vid, hope it helps. Tried to get to all the places the noise could be heard.

it sounded like an exhaust leak until you revved it then let off... Now hear me when I say this... The sound quality blows so I cant say 100%... but from what I can hear from the video it sounds like its a low end knock... perhaps a rod bearing or the crank bearings... Check your oil, look for perhaps just a hint of glitter on the tip... Could also be a wrist pin, which is why I just had mine rebuilt... or the flywheel...Its really hard to tell from the video... Need to have some one actually look at it...
