Default TPS Mod

I read about a way to adjust the voltage on the TPS to improve throttle response. Does this work? I've only heard about V6 and V8 guys doing it, would it work on the 2.5? Also, please don't bash the 2.5 too much.

Thanks 98DAKAZ. Sounds like the start of a 2.5 revolution. 2.5 Unite!

Basically the mod goes like this:

-Remove the TPS and drill out the brass inserts where the screws go.
-Put the TPS back on using washers since the holes are now bigger the screw head. Tighten until slightly loose.
-Plug in the connector
-Turn the key to ON, do not START
-Take a meter to the middle terminal and measure voltage.
-Slowly turn the TPS clockwise until the voltage is .7-.75v
-Open the throttle by hand and make sure the voltage does not exceed 4.5v or else it will fry the sensor.

The theory behind it is that it will give you a more precise throttle response off the line.

You might be able to, but I'm not 100% positive. I read about it here, where it gives pretty good instructions. It also says to leave it alone if the voltage is already near .7.

Heres the link: http://bionicdodge.com/Download/Spee...d%20Tricks.pdf

Keep us posted on if you decide to try it out, I'm curious if it works on the 2.5, and what kind of difference it makes.

Default give it a try

Give it a try I see what drilling the holes out does it gives you some adjustment room.

On your problem code what kind of sparkplugs do you use? I read someplace that certain plugs can cause this code but I think it’s your gas cap or a leak in that system.

I suggest replacing all your soft vacuum lines all my lines/elbows were hard as a rock the elbows you can find in AutoZone or Orilly auto especially check under the truck the charcoal canister elbows the gas fumes dries the rubber out my were all cracking up and ready to go on me.

Sounds like you are keeping your old sensors as a backup that’s a good idea actually you should keep all old parts as backups.

My A/C rehab is my next job then its quitting time for a few months

I'm running some Champion Coppers. I replaced all my vaccuum lines when I pulled my motor.

Yea, as long as the part is in decent shape then I keepp them. you never know when you might need them.

I'm upgrading my front brakes this weekend. I'm putting on Cragar slotted and drilled rotors with EBC Kevlar pads.

It doesn't hurt to check what your voltages are. If they are out of spec, its worth doing this. I noticed a slight improvement.

I don't think it was related but a couple of years later I needed to replace the TPS, as it was causing the O/D clutch in the gearbox to keep cutting in and out when on the highway.

Just important as the upper and lower readings, is that its a constant increase in voltage as you open the throttle. Mine was ok at the top and bottom BUT was a bit erratic getting there!
