I have a 97 Dodge Dakota 4x4, 3.9 Automatic Club Cab.

Some days it run just great, other times it makes this loud roar and a high pitch sound when the transmission changes gears.
Any help any one can offer would be much appreciated.
Also, I've done a lot of work on it, so if I can help any one I'm willing.

Welcome to DF
My first guess would be a water pump or a fan clutch. I will moving your post to the 2nd Gen Dakota section. the members are pretty knowledgeable in the dakota section.

Default 97 Dakota

Thanks for posting on my truck Master Tech,
Any idea what the high pitch sound is when Trans. is changing? Much of my loud noise seems to be coming from the driver's side very near the firewall.
Thanks, Willie (kethone)
