Default Turbo

I was just wondering if any in here has a turbo kit on their dakota? I was thinking about dropping my a/c since it does'nt work. And possibly putting on a turbo.

Have never found a turbo kit for a dakota. If you want to put ALOT of time and money into it you can design one yourself.

I've been working on it for my 2.5, i find you can buy a new turbo and fab a few parts to get it working and pay out the a$$ on it , pay someone to do the work for you, or you can find an old le baron thats turbo-charged and take the turbo off it. This still leaves you with a great deal of fabrication as far as intake and exhaust go and of course youd have to beef up you fuel delivery to keep up. the le baron was non-intercooled so im not sure how youd go about workin with it and as far as tuning goes with the custom one i havent the slightest idea. I was thinking about diving in and going for it but i havent the time or money to throw into it right now so im sticking to the n/a way and doing the mods i can. Also on the a/c i dont know what engine you have but i bypassed my a/c compressor the other day and ill tell ya theres a difference. Mostly on take off. Bigger motors may not have as much of a drag from the a/c but the small ones can feel it. BTW The belt that they sell for the truck with no a/c doesnt fit on one with, like it should. I went through three belt sizes before finding one to fit. Good luck

also even if the le baron turbo worked, im not sure how well the motor would hold up with the difference in compression. Which could lead you to a whole other dimension of strengthing your motor. Im not sure i did some research and its not looking like its not worth the effort right now so im holding out. Look around though if youre serious check out
www.homemadeturbo.com
www.dodgedakotas.com, i believe there is a guy or two on there with turbo kotas.

meh... not too much thus far. I made a custom cold air which works very nicely and sounds mean as hell and a small upgrade on a cheap muffler. like i said the a/c comp. bypassed, good gas, i cleaned everything up when i got it becuase the guy before me didnt ever even change the plugs, and slightly advanced the timing. Im broke and in college so its hard not to mention its a 2.5 which no one wants to help fix up. most laugh and say buy a v8. I have a 2/3 on it and m3 mirrors and i painted the mcugly wheels i have black so everything is black. But im getting new wheels soon and powder coating them through a friend who will be painting my entire truck once i put the roll pan on and pull the dings. Im also gonna get a high flow cat and muffler. Do you have a 2.5 as well? this is my first 4 cylinder that wasnt turbo so i dont know how it should run in conjunction to other trucks but i can definitely tell that its a whole lot quicker than it was when i bought it.

Generally you have to lower your compression ratio when you put a turbo on. I'm trying to remember what the c/r of my CSX was compared to a n/a 2.2L Shadow. I'm thinking it was 8:1 and teh stock shadow was 8.9:1.
