Question Royal Purple power steering fluid Bad ? ?

First I would like to say my pump was the original so 12 years on it.

This last year I flushed out my power steering system with new fluid two times first with the basic Preston stuff and it ran just fine then I decided to go with the Royal Purple stuff at first it seemed fine but I started to notice at every startup the pump would squeal for a few seconds then be fine. Well it started getting worse these last few days it would squeal very loud for about 20 seconds them smooth out.

I decided to replace my pump wow was I glad I did that thing was almost seized up it was hard to turn the pump by hand.

I have never heard of this usually the pumps start to loose pressure or they squeal all the time but my pump only squealed at startup then go quiet.

I also have never heard of these pumps seizing up just go bad.

Do you think it was the Royal Purple or it was just the pumps time to go after 12 years.

Note I didn’t have any steering problems all the way to the last day I replaced it so it was performing its job but just started to seize up on me.

Personally I don't think RP killed your pump, most likely coincidence. I have a buddy of mine whose pump seized so bad it wouldn't even turn.

Thumbs up Answer is dried out bearings not Royal Purple

Well I wanted to know what happened so I took my pump apart and found my bearings had dried out so it had nothing to do with Royal Purple.

The pump was in great shape but the front bearing had dried out and caused the pump to start to seize up.

My pump went two years ago so it had about 115-120k miles on it and was 8 years old.

Good to hear that your a/c is running again.

Count me lucky that I haven't had any troubles with my pump and it has 235k on it. Ha it'll probably seize now that I've brought it up lol.
