Those Pesky O2 Sensors

Those Pesky O2 Sensors
I've tried to backtrack through the archives to see if this problem has been covered, but if it has I missed it, so . . .
Background
2001 Dakota 4x4, 97,862 miles. Check engine light on and codes P0031 (1/1, left upstream) P0051 (2/1,right upstream) and P0136 (1/2, left downstream.) Dealer tells me that 1/1 has crossed exhaust and fried insulation (it had) and other codes may be because 1/1 is bad. He wants $300 to change 1/1 so I say have a nice day. I buy OEM NTK sensor, replace 1/1. Reset and turn on ignition. Check engine light goes off, then in less than one minute comes back on. Same three codes only.
Questions
1. Could the short in 1/1 have lead to the failure of the other two sensors but not the fourth?
2. Is there anything I ought to do before I simply replace all of the remaining sensors?
I hate to be a parts changer hoping a problem just goes away, but my diagnostics skills are . . . well, you know. That's why I am here!
BTW, if changing the other sensors is as "challenging" as the left front unit was, I may either set myself or the truck on fire.
