I did the math on diesel mpg vs gas mpg and comparing the same size gas tank with my diesel mpg and my my dakota mpg im still saving 5.80 compared to my dakota. Now comparing my diesel mpg(34 gal tank) I could go like 580mi(of my average mpg of 17) on 1 tank of diesel and in my dakota I would have to fill up 2 times and I would be spending 50.00 more to go that same mileage as 1 tank of diesel. So in theory im gaining a bigger truck, better mpg, more hp/torque,more towing ability and saving money. Granted my oil changes are 20.00 more and brakes and rotors are 50.00 more but either way im still spending just as much as my dakota or maybe saving a few dollars. IMO its worth it

Yeah I agree, but just hope nothing breaks cuz diesels are pretty costly to fix compared to gas engines.

From what I have looked around all the usual electrical, bearings, tie rods, ball joints, water pump, starter all seem to be about the same price as the dakota. Only very expensive fix I have to worry about is the stock vp44 injection pump(1,500-2,000 to fix). Whats nice about the edge tuner is you can watch fuel pressure and it has a alert on it when the pressure gets so low that way you dont fry your pump. This in most cases happens with the stock fuel pump and when you are running a tuner, intake and exhaust. It doesnt have enough pressure to create a solid flow of fuel(the vp44 is lubricated by the diesel fuel) When you arent getting enough fuel to the injector pump bam it frys. I have a fass 150 pump these pumps are meant for extreme power like 800hp. On level 5 on my tuner Im pushing about 400-425hp and 800lb torque.(Stock is 305hp and 555 torque)

Umm, 2nd Gens only had 225HP and 450TQ stock. (235/465 HO)
Early 3rd gen (2003-2004 had 305/555.
Late 3rd gen 04.5-07 had 350/610,
4th gen (6.7) had 315/600 then bumped to 350/800 now.

Im a cummins fanatic and the only one in the family without one, for now, I know so much especially the 24V VP 2nd gen.

Cant wait till I find a real job and can get the 99 thats teasing me with those 125+HP injectors, and a silver bullet 62 turbo

Ok I stand corrected lol Thats the problem with the 02 they made the 2nd gens in early 02 and the 3rd gens in late 02. So somethings you read I guess you have to make sure its for the 2nd gens. Regardless anyway im still pushing out way more power than my dakota and achieving better mpg while im at it.

Im a city Truck user I dont need all that power or 4X4
You will hate the V6 in the 2nd Gen Rams. The 5.2L V8 gets the same mileage or better, and more power. The 5.9L is a little more power yet, but drinks even more gas. If you don't need to tow with it, and you want the best mileage possible out of a 2nd Gen Ram 1500, get the 5.2L V8.
