Default 3.9 auto to stanard tranny swap????

I have a 99 dakota 3.9 v6 and I want to do a tranny swap. I know what I need but am getting the run around about which stanard trannys will work for my 3.9. I hear that the NV 3500 out of a ram 1500 will work, but what years? Any and all input would be appreciated

Need some info, I found a 2001 ram 1500 with a 318 and stanard transmission in it for dirt cheap. The motor was ran out of oil and it seized up. Is the bellhousing on the 318 the same as a 42re thats in my dakota? Need a answer quick, dont want to let a deal like this go by if it will work.

i looked at my 2001 dakota book. i can not find, in my service manual, any info on the bolt pattern at the rear of he engine or the front of trans. some bodys are made for a certen trans and a different trans might not fit. but i dont know when or if they do that. a good salvage yard, or good trans shop might know what you need.

I got my answer, the 3.9 v6 magnum is based off the 318, it is pretty much a 318 missing 2 cyclinders. The bellhousing is the same on the 3.9 and 318 and the NV3500 will bolt directly up to the 3.9. This is good news for me. It should cost me next to nothing to swap out the trans and then take the donor truck across the scales to get my $$$ back. Good riddens crappy dodge automatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
