97 dakota will not start unless....
I hit the gas and allow the fuel to get into the system it seems like. Sometimes even if i hit the gas and slowly let of, it's almost as if the truck just won't catch and it shuts off. When i go to back up, the truck sometimes shuts off. The IAC was replaced, thinking it would help with idling, it worked for a bit and now the problem is back. Replaced the fuel line last summer, ( i swear those damn squirrels did something). Anybody have this problem?
Increasing throttle does 1 thing.. increasing the air.. my buddy last night bought a 5.0HO whould not stay running and was running rich.. kept dieing.. reverse kept dieing he had to dump the clutch and keep RPM's insainly high..
His Air filter was clogged. So have you checked your air filter? When did it get changed last.. also.. take the TB Air hat off and have someone turn the key to the "on" position.. watch the plunger; does it move? Does it click.. sounds like a lack of air problem to me..
Fuel pump.. well lets see to be clear.. this is not a mechanical.. Increasing RPM or Throttle does not increase your fuel.. the fuel pressure stays constant (or at least should) no matter your Throttle. Pushing the pedal does not increase 'gas' it increases air.. if all those things check out and are working then i would suggest maybe some sensor issue like the MAP or TPS>
But i would start with the basics; checking all your tunup items; checking the IAC to make sure its working correctly; there is another thread simular to this one yesterday they replaced the IAC and it was reported to be fixed. I would start there and say away from the el-cheapo parts...

change the map sensor what is it you meant did you mean you changed the ecu? u said i ac what is this ? so if that dont work check the o2 sensors and fuel filter ? also u can check other sensors such as idle sensor /throttle. and lastly the intake temp sensor .
