2001 Dakota rear fender replacement

Default 2001 Dakota rear fender replacement

Anyone know the steps to replace the rear fenders on a 2001 2wd dodge Dakota or do I have to replace the whole bed and where could I get replacement beds

The rear fenders are welded in place. They can be cut off and replaced.

A boneyard may have a replacement bed.

It's quite fun actually, I got to do the same thing on my 01 4x4. I worked in a body shop too, we had to do a replacement on another 01, that had a deer go down the right side. Easy way, is build some HD saw horses, get a buddy, and unhook the lights and filler neck, remove rear bumper, and remove the bolts that hold the box on, 8 of them, 2 guys can lift the box. If you look, you can see a series of spot welds. You can get a bit that allows you to drill a small centering hole, then you only cut through 1 layer of the spot weld. Take an air chisel, or by hammer and chisel, and separate the spot welds. Along the upper inside of the panel, down the front, etc. Installation, a good welder with a MIG to do spot welds and reattach. takes a few hours, but, not at all a bad job.
