NV3500 Operating Temp?
Guys,
I just replaced the clutch in my 5.2, and then took it for a 300mile road trip. I also replaced the drivetrain fluids with the recommended stuff, but noticed that my tranny gets very hot....is this normal? I used an IR therm. and found the alum tranny casing was getting around 180 degrees F. I never checked the temp of the tranny before, so I dont know if something is wrong here or not.....so how hot are these trannys supposed to get?
thanks-
Greg

RE: NV3500 Operating Temp?
I haven't measured trans temps with a meter, but wouldn't be surprised if 180 is OK in hot weather. From old muscle car days, the shifter lever would always get hot to the touch during the summer and that's with a old-fashioned Hurst shifter bolted to the tail shaft or even a frame mounted Corvette shifter, where there's lots more opportunity for cooling the shifeter thanwith a modern internal shifter. Gear oil is relatively thick and helical gears cause lots of sliding and shearing friction
