Default bmw 525i goes kaput

sorry, im not really sure where to post this but whatever. alright, my sister has/had a 1993 525i with 104k on it that we bought for 1200 then had to put 1300 into it so more that its worth already... two days ago, while she was does about 65mpg, the timing chain snapped, causing alot of internal damage and snapping the crankshaft, a mobile mech will put a new in it for 1100 including the engine and our shop wil put one in for about 4k. i definitly dont think the 4k is worth it but what do you guys think about the 1100 because i dont think that it is worth it either and she would be better off getting a lil ~2005 ford focus or something similar that is more reliable. let me know what you guys think and also what to do with the car, junkyard? part out? donate? burn??jk, throw a new chain and crankshat on it and take it to a demo derby and/or make some crazy redneck youtube video of me jumping it 100ft?

German cars are sweet but such a pain to maintain. I wanted an S4 for a long time but after seeing what my friend has gone through with his Jetta I don't even want to touch a VW or Audi. To me you're better off getting something like you said, a Focus. They're not luxurious like a beemer but a LOT cheaper and easier to maintain.
